Rossi was trying to make up places quickly following another poor qualifying. He tried to pass Bautista on the outside when AB was leaned over to the left and could not possibly see him. As Bautista continued to hold his line and turn right, contact was made. If they hadn't hit, Rossi would probably have been unable to make the turn anyway and would have most likely taken a couple of others riders off with him. Another case of Rossi's ambition outweighing his talent and AB unfairly gets all the flak.
