If one rider can do a pace more easily than another rider, I think there's a fair chance the rider doing it more easily will be using less tyre, or at least using one tyre (front or rear) less.
In 2012, it's much harder to compare Stoner and Pedrosa. Firstly, the chatter that was there (up to Stoner's accident) robbed Stoner of something that made him faster than Dani in 2011. Or, to put it another way, Dani was riding the 2012 bike better than Stoner. The debilitating chatter over-shadowed an anlysis of more subtle details like who's using their tyre more.
But, getting back to what started this vein of the discussion - MM and tyres versus Dani and tyres. IMO, MM is showing that he is faster than Dani, including faster when its time to drop the hammer. Generally speaking, MM has shown he can do Dani's race pace more easily than Dani can and when it is time to drop the hammer, he's got Dani covered. What is ...
