We all know Stoner would not and could not fix that bike's problems.
And you base this upon what exactly? The fact that he received no support his entire tenure at Ducati? Or could it be the fact that Rossi received more support and upgrades in 2 seasons that Stoner did in 4 seasons and guess what, the bike wasn't any better.
