My first reaction was also to think that Rossi will be free in '15 and considering Brivio's close ties with Rossi (he has been running Rossi's merchandising company) it looked a shoe in.
Would VR really want to take the risk for small money? He is still the highest paid athlete on 2 wheels and I don't think Suzuki has the money available to pay Rossi what he is used to getting.
Suzuki does not need to secure a rider till silly season in mid '14 and if they cannot pay a large salary candidates will want to see how competitive the package is before committing. Part of the decision to go racing in '15 I think is to attract a top rider through having a competitive machine rather that paying a huge salary. This coincides with a bunch of racers being out of contract at the end of 2014.
