As for some drivel posted on this thread (and others) about riding to your abilities, well, it just doesnt make sense. . .
07 = 10 wins
08 = 6 wins
09 = 4 wins
10 = 3 wins
11 = 10 wins
12 = 5 wins
. . .so you can lose your ability and suddenly regain it and then lose it again? Or is there more to it than simple mindedness?
I would suggest its more about having the right tools to take full advantage of your abilities. All these guys can ride these bikes beyond the bikes capabilities (they all crash!).
Some have sharper tools than others, some have a bigger selection of tools than others, some have perfectly matched tools while others are simply doing a job without the right tools at all.
