Rossi was third into the first corner at Silverstone... the only people he passed (AB & SB) got by him after that.
Pedrosa was sixth off the start, and had to work his way to the front, passing Bautista, Bradl and Rossi . DP made that look pretty easy, despite having a bigger gap to broach.
There really is no excuse (for VR), nor is any required. He simply wasn't as fast as the front guys.
If he had qualified on pole, he still would have come fourth. But conspiracy theories are much more entertaining than the truth, and since entertainment is more important in MotoGP than anything else, maybe they should be amped up...
