In my opinion, if all the riders were on identically performing motorcycles, the finishing order, at least for the top ten, would not change a whole lot, just the gaps would be smaller. Team owners, with all their experience, know how to spot talent and want to keep their teams healthy by showing their sponsors good results, so, naturally, those with the best structure tend to hire the best riders. The difference in machinery just highlight the riders' level of performance on each particular year.
