Saturday practice times - Valencia MotoGP.

Full Saturday free practice times from the Valencia MotoGP, the 17th and final round of the 2009 world championship.

2009 World Superbike champion Ben Spies is making his Yamaha MotoGP debut as a wild-card this weekend, while Aleix Espargaro is again replacing the injured Niccolo Canepa at Pramac Ducati.

Spies moved from 15th on Friday to 12th this morning and ahead of fellow Yamaha rider James Toseland, whom he will replace at Tech 3 in 2010. Spies had been 2.239sec from Stoner on Friday, but was only 1.377sec behind on Saturday morning.

Spies was also the fastest Yamaha rider in a straight line this morning, clocking 312.0km/h to once again hold seventh overall on the top speed charts. The other Yamaha riders were eighth (Lorenzo, 311.6km/h), twelfth (Rossi, 310.4km/h, 16th (Edwards, 309.1km/h) and 18th (Toseland, 306.7km/h)...

'Spies - ahead of JT...oh dear oh dear...' Oh come on, did anybody *really* think that Spies wouldn't outqualify and outperform Toseland this weekend? JT has been an abject failure on the bike the whole year and seems to be worsening as it draws on. While he's on the same bike, it's slightly crazy to hold JT up as a benchmark for Spies, as the guy plainly hasn't gelled with the bike and isn't able to cut it in the class. You don't measure yourself against failures. Spies is no fool and will be gauging his pace not against Toseland but the guy who is comfortable and successful on the bike - Edwards. And he's doing a grand job so far.

Well done Nicky, I know its only FP2 but it is still good to see you up there :) Bit like a Japanese sandwich between Italion know what to do boys..... just chew them up and spit em out :) :)
