British MotoGP, Silverstone - Free Practice (3)

Free practice times (3) from the British MotoGP at Silverstone, round 12 of 18.
Home star Cal Crutchlow suffered heavy falls at the start and end of the session. Fortunately, unlike on his two previous British GP Saturdays, Crutchlow escaped injury.

Other fallers in the cool morning conditions were PBM riders Yonny Hernandez (twice) and Michael Laverty, plus Ioda's Lukas Pesek.

The top ten riders after FP3 (combined times) will receive direct access to the second and final part of this afternoon's qualifying session.

Ducati test rider Michele Pirro is again replacing the re-injured Ben Spies at Pramac. Cardion AB's Karel Abraham is also absent through to injury, but has not been replaced.

The Honda is not "miles faster" than the Yamaha. Unless you are an experienced MotoGP rider and have ridden both that is complete fiction. At this stage the Honda appears to have a slight edge over the Yamaha. I think this might be due, in part, to the fact that they didn't have to add 4kg to their bike at the last minute and they have sorted out most of the chatter problems. Marquez is a very fast rider and he would be just as hard to beat if he was on a Yamaha. He rides on the ragged edge extracting everything from the bike. He is hungry for wins and he is riding to set records that may never be broken.

The race is between Marquez and the flag, nobody else can touch him, he can throw the race if he wants, but on pace everyone else is at least 4/10s behind him easy. ... Dani and Mark Webber should exchange notes :) Dani slowest of the Hondas, says a lot, oh yes.
