Free Practice (1) results from the 2017 Americas MotoGP at COTA, Austin, round 3 of 18.
Maverick Vinales gets the better of Marc Marquez during opening practice for the Austin MotoGP round.

Both riders set their best time while using the medium compound tyres front and rear.

Vinales' team-mate Valentino Rossi once again made a slow start to the weekend, in eighth, while using the soft tyres.

I had forgotten what a visual TV spectacle the Austin track is. The elevation changes, and the superb positioning of the cameras, give a fantastic feeling of the lean angles, acceleration, braking, and flowing through the S's. One of the very best "on-TV" watching tracks.

Mav, carrying on where he left off. Marc put in 2 long runs and was setting fast consistent times in both. He'll be there. Dovi.....he'll be there too. Jorge....getting up to speed ?
