After a wet Friday, MotoGP riders got their first dry session of the weekend, which also decided the top ten riders that will get direct access to this afternoon's Qualifying 2 pole position shootout.

Valentino Rossi is riding just 23 days after breaking his right tibia and fibula in an enduro training accident... and made the top ten!

Yamaha WorldSBK star Michael van der Mark is on standby should Rossi be unable to continue for the full weekend.

KTM test rider Mika Kallio is making his latest wild-card entry and took a head-turning fifth in FP3, as he seeks to make his case for a KTM race seat in 2018...

GOOOOOO KAAAAALLIIIIOOOO!!!!!

Incredible speed and pace for the FP3 with 5th position from pretty difficult starting situation (no dry track time for his bike/chassis/suspension version that he has only tested for one day before)!!

What makes it even more impressive was that he could put in fastestlaps and consistent pace also byhimself which is a direct opposite compared e.g. to Pol who often needs a tow.

Timesheet tells it all!!

GIVE KALLIO A RACE RIDER CONTRACT IMMEDIATELY FOR SIGNING!!

Yeah, Kallioooooooooooo! Smith will hopefully be replaced by the next race, this is just not going to work.

And 2 KTMs in the top 10, fantastic result!

Rossi great effort, who would have expected that??

Oops, Pol on the 2nd KTM got to 12th... Makes Kallio's result even more impressive!

Nice for Mika,  he saw  the KTM have good progress in motogp project.  Poor Bradley Smith, he still difficult get in 15...

Aprilia have good progress too...  Aleix Espagaro in last 3 race consistent in top ten in qualifying... unfortunate he DNF in last two race before ...

I hope all factory team can compete, so motogp more interesting...

Kallio is da man

Well done Vale after only 22 days having broken leg on two places. KTM results I don't think that anyone was expecting that. Great achievements by Mika Kalio and KTM team, two riders in top ten.

What would be the point of KTM keeping Bradley as a test rider? So slow and such an atrocious performance from him with his job on the line, and another Brit doing poorly when conditions return to normal - take a bow Sam Lowes, the only thing I've seen crash more than the Lowes brothers (Alex crashing both WSBK races last time out) is this website.

6 manufacturers in top 10, this looks good for next year.

Not 'broken leg' , fracture totally different. I think race distance will prove very difficult.

Marquez/Honda look to have gotten into their stride over the last gp's, looks like the writings on the wall for who will be 2017 champion.

Bancksie, I hate to tell you mate, but a ‘broken leg’ and a fracture are one and the same. In fact, a ‘broken leg’ doesn’t exist - they’re are all fractures.

Agree with next year looking good, plus it’ll be silly season again...
