Rahel Frey will become the fourth female driver to grace the A1 Grand Prix series when she takes part in the rookie practice sessions on Friday in Sepang, stepping up from the inaugural Formula Master championship for her debut with A1 Team Switzerland.
Katherine Legge, Jennifer Murray and countrywoman Natacha Gachnang have all tasted the World Cup of Motorsport, and Frey is eager to follow in their footsteps.
Q:
Do you feel nervous about this first experience with A1 Team Switzerland?
Rahel Frey:
No, it is an incredible opportunity to continue the excellent work started with the team during the
Silverstone tests and the chance to show my racing potential.
Q:
Do you already know the Sepang track?
RF:
I like to get to know new tracks and have already studied the 15 turns of the Sepang track on the Playstation. I hope that this 'crash course' will be enough to allow me to get on the pace right away.
Q:
Do you fear the 'special' weather conditions in Malaysia?
RF:
It is hard for me to imagine how difficult or easy it will be to adapt. It will be my first ever time in Malaysia. But I am fit and I also know that rain showers can be frequent on the track.
Q:
What do you hope to achieve in Malaysia?
RF:
Most important is a great result for A1 Team Switzerland.
