Oliver Jarvis has his sights set firmly on rostrum finishes after annexing a pair of second row starting spots for the two A1GP World Cup of Motorsport outings in Durban this weekend.
The British nation vs nation series returnee – who opened the team's victory account for the season back in the Zandvoort curtain-raiser, a tally it has still to add to nigh-on five months later – has been on the pace throughout the latest meeting, and will share row two with championship leader New Zealand's Jonny Reid, who narrowly pipped him to third spot on both occasions.
The 24-year-old shone in final practice, lying in second position up until four minutes before the end when he overshot the hairpin at turn one, causing him to graze the tyre wall and stall the engine, consequently slipping back down to fourth place. Jarvis held the top spot on a number of occasions during qualifying as he showed himself to be more than comfortable around the punishing South African street circuit, but ultimately just two tenths of a second were enough to separate him from pole position both times.
“I think we definitely had the pace to be on the front row for both races,” the newly-signed Audi DTM ace rued afterwards. “We got caught out by the red flag in sprint qualifying one, as did many other teams, and so didn't set a lap.
“We managed to set a good time in sprint qualifying two, though unfortunately got held up by a car spinning; that probably cost us three tenths, which would have been good enough for pole.
“Feature qualifying one went well – finishing second-fastest – then in the final qualifying we ideally could have gone a bit later, but at the same time there were a few minor mistakes on my part. However, the car is very good and we'll definitely be challenging for podium places in both races tomorrow.”
