Contrary to Oliver Jarvis' fears that the A1GP crown is now out of reach for Great Britain following the nation's disastrous end to its Durban weekend, team-mate Robbie Kerr is adamant that everything is still to play for.

It is Kerr who looks likely to see out the season for Team GBR – particularly given Jarvis' recently-confirmed move to the DTM with Audi – with three rounds now remaining, beginning in Mexico on 16 March. Though he, like the team, has not enjoyed the best of fortunes in the World Cup of Motorsport's third campaign – notching up just two points finishes from six races, albeit both of them on the rostrum – the series veteran is insistent there's absolutely no reason to throw in the towel yet.

“Of course it is,” he fired back, when asked if it was still viable for Great Britain to be targeting the title. “You can score 30 points in one weekend. Everyone had a nightmare at some point Down Under, so we're pretty certain that as long as we carry on and remain strong for the rest of the season, somebody somewhere is going to trip up and we'll be there to pounce.

“The competition is always getting closer; you can see that from the qualifying times, with for instance less than half a second covering the top nine or ten cars on the grid. It is really tight out there, meaning the car has to be 100 per cent and so do you if you want to get a good grid slot and give yourself the best opportunity for each race.”

Kerr returned to the car for the first time since Brno last October when he took to the wheel for A1GP's dual-leg Antipodean adventure at Taupo and Eastern Creek, but a culmination of on-track contact, mechanical woes and a mis-timed tyre change conspired to torpedo his chances in three of the four races. With team GBR now lying 48 points behind championship leaders Switzerland with 96 remaining up for grabs, Kerr knows there can be absolutely no further margin for error.
