Pressure off Carroll as Ireland seeks to build on Chinese performance.

Adam Carroll will look to build on his fine performance at Chengdu as the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport heads to Malaysia this weekend for the third round of the year.

The Team Ireland driver endured a tough start to the season at Zandvoort when he crashed out of the opening race of the year before the start-line, but rebounded in fine style in China.

There, Carroll was amongst the pacesetters throughout and took a double podium finish from the weekend – including a dominant victory in the sprint race and a narrow second place behind Portugal in the feature race.

Those results lifted Ireland to a share of second in the standings alongside France and Carroll said he was reaping the benefits of not having to worry about finding the budget for his drive – as has been the case in recent seasons in a variety of championships.

“This is the first time in seven seasons of racing I have come to a team without any pressure of money hanging over me,” he said. “It means I can concentrate my efforts 100 per cent physically and mentally on the racing.

“I feel more prepared than I have ever been before and I feel that now is the time for me to step up and do the job. You don't get many opportunities as good as this in life, and I've never been more ready.”
