A1GP has announced that teams will be offered a Powerboost 'joker' lap during qualifying for the third round of the season at Sepang this weekend.
The Powerboost will be available for a complete lap in qualifying, with teams able to use it once during their four flying laps.
With the Powerboost button providing an extra 60bhp, the decision is set to play a major part in qualifying with the teams now faced with the decision as to whether to use the Powerboost during the qualifying segments for the sprint or feature races.
"It will give us about 10 km/h more speed on the straight, so it is going to be a big gain over the whole lap," Team Portugal driver Filipe Albuquerque told the official A1GP website. "I would say it will make us up to a second per lap quicker here in Malaysia.
"We have to be careful of going much faster into the corners than we are used to and not lose the car. The drivers will have to push through that."
Teams will have one opportunity to use the Powerboost in free practice to familiarise themselves with the system ahead of qualifying.
