Rahal's teenage son, GRAHAM RAHAL, will be a 'guest' driver with the RLR team. Bobby said he had asked Graham to race when it didn't conflict with his other commitments, so Graham might run Sebring and/or Petite Le Mans. Bobby said he'd have to raise Graham's allowance. But Dad said his soon-to-be 18 year old son has a busy year ahead, without going into details. Graham Rahal is committed to run eight A1GP races with Team Lebanon, one of which he has already run. Graham had a successful Champ Car test with Newman Haas Racing two weeks ago and got his times down to be competitive with NHR lead driver and two-time Champ Car World Champion, SEBASTIAN BOURDAIS. Many expect Graham to sign with NHR for next season.
Rahal is not planning to race the Porsche himself. "I'm too old and slow. I've had my day. I'm going to sit in one of the towers like Roger (Penske). That's my goal."
Rahal has no specific deadline on making his driver decision, but sooner would be good. The car won't be delivered until before the January ALMS test at Sebring when his car will be unveiled. In the meantime, RLR has a lot of work to do.
Rahal said there are a couple of tyre options out there. "Stay tuned. This is the only series which has that kind of variation, and that is a motivation for us."
Rahal has been keeping up with the development of the Porsche while looking at the other good manufacturers in ALMS, such as
Ferrari or Panoz. But, he said: "With all due respect, the history of sports car racing has been with Porsche."
The RLR ALMS team will be based in Columbus Ohio, where there is a lot of space to share with the IRL team. The two teams will be separate, dedicated and independent of each other. Rahal is bringing three of his 'compatriots' with him - JAY O'CONNELL as Technical Director, BRIAN ROEHMER, Sales and Marketing Director, and SCOTT ROEHMKE, his right hand man.
