We had somehow got up to fifth, and I managed to pull away from the others
and save fuel. I was then told to go flat out as we weren't going to make the end of the race with the fuel we had, so I went for it. The plan worked and, when we stopped again, I stayed ahead of our pursuers and finished third in class and fifth overall. This was the best result we could have hoped for as we had nothing for the Penskes. Then again, not even Audi had anything as they got beat again. I could only imagine what the board meeting was like at Stuttgart after that...
On to Mosport, the fastest race track we go to. It is bloody quick - we are doing 130mph average there and
all the drivers keep saying 'man, it so fast here'. Turns one and two are flat in fifth and sixth, and I went out to watch at turn two to see who was lifting and who wasn't. I didn't stay long as I thought it best not to watch and scare myself!
I qualified sixth, which was not great, but we were only 0.5secs behind the pole-winning Audi. It looked like being a really close race, so we were all looking forward to the battle.
Stefan started and was doing really well, having got between the Penskes and running a strong pace. When the time came to get my helmet on, I couldn't wait to get out there and mix it with everyone. Then I saw everyone looking at the monitors....
That's not normally a good sign and, when I took a look, there was Stefan, limping back to the pits with the right front wheel about a foot off the ground. He finally got it back to the pits and I jumped in, hoping we could fix it, but it didn't take long to find the gearbox was broken. Stefan later revealed that, as he was going around the outside of a GT2 car in turn two, the other car lost the rear end and his right rear wheel whacked our left rear, sending Stefan off into the wall of tyres. We didn't get any points, which was disappointing, but at least we are still in the fight for third in the P2 category.
