D-Brief: Sub-Lime!

Saturday, 19th July 2008

David Brabham reflects on Patron Highcroft Racing's breakthrough ALMS victory at Lime Rock Park.

An overall victory was always close, but you just need every little bit going for you. We finished third overall at St Petersburg and Long Beach - although at Long Beach, obviously, we managed to win our class - and we knew that this particular track, Lime Rock, would suit our car. We're always quick at that sort of circuit - it's like a street circuit in that it's quite tight and we've always been strong on street circuits - so we knew that this was our chance and all it needed was for every little thing to fall into place - which it did. There was a lot of determination from the team to succeed, so it was a sweet victory.

Lime Rock was also the home race for the Highcroft team, so we had 300 guests - sponsors and family - there, as well as a huge crowd. Everyone got behind the event, and it was quite an amazing experience afterwards because so many people had enjoyed the race and we had so many close fans there, so just made it that bit special.

I suppose the only downside is that we haven't got that much time to savour the victory with Mid-Ohio coming up this weekend. There's been so much support from around the world, it's been quite staggering the response we've had from the race. Even arriving at Mid-Ohio, where I'm talking to you from now, so many people - even the guys from Penske and Porsche - are still coming over to us and saying 'fantastic race, great move - round the outside, what a pass'...

People are still in the memory of what happened, but we're just trying to forget about last weekend - which is hard because so many people keep reminding us about it - because we have a job to do this weekend. Trying to maintain that focus has been difficult simply because people still want to talk about the pass, while we've got to keep thinking about what is happening next.

Mid-Ohio should be a strong race for us, but a close one because the competition is so good that you've got to get everything just right. That's what we're aiming to do - but have some fun doing it!

Hopefully, I'll be able to tell you about another win very soon....
