DALE EARNHARDT Jr was 'big man on campus' on Friday at Infineon Raceway for the American Le Mans Infineon Grand Prix of Sonoma race weekend.
He is co-driving one of three factory Corvettes in the GTS class this weekend, with BORIS SAID. Junior did 15 laps in Friday's single afternoon test session.
Because of his gruelling stock car schedule, which includes sponsorship and media commitments, Little E can only make two sports car races a year. Three years ago, as part of
Daytona Speedweeks, he raced with the same Pratt & Miller factory Corvette team at the Grand American Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona at Daytona International Speedway. His co-driver was his father, the late DALE EARNHARDT, who died three weeks after that race.
This is Earnhardt's first time running the full road course at Infineon Raceway, and he thinks driving 'The Carousel' is a blast, a lot of fun, a carnival ride. He enjoyed exiting onto the drag strip full throttle and shooting up the track. Little E said he wished the Cup cars drove the full course with the Carousel, but later amended that to include that it would probably be more difficult in a Cup car. Earnhardt is not alone in liking the Carousel. RUSTY WALLACE has oft been vocal about missing it when he comes to town with the NASCAR circus.
Earnhardt is enjoying the entire experience of racing the Corvette at Infineon Raceway.
"This car is tremendously different from anything that I drive in the Nextel Cup Series, and in my opinion it might be one of the greatest cars I've ever driven." he commented, "Just a whole lot of fun to drive."
Earnhardt's co-driver agreed with Earnhardt's assessment of the car, saying that 'the car is amazing, and it's the best car I've ever driven'.
"This car is so comfortable, it's amazing, and so much fun to drive," Said continued, "And the team is so awesome and organised."
