After starting from pole position, James Weaver and Butch Leitzinger dominated the Grand Prix of Mosport to take victory for the Dyson Racing team.
Driving the MG Lola EX257-AER, the duo finished the race just over 16 seconds ahead of JJ Lehto and Marco Werner – who had been going for a fifth straight ALMS win in the Champion Racing Audi.
"It was absolutely perfect," Weaver said afterwards. "I couldn't make a racing car do better than that. We have a lot of miles at Mosport and it paid off handsomely."
Perfect may not have been the right word had a gamble from the Champion team paid off. Deciding to do a fuel only final stop, Lehto exited the pits with 45 minutes of the race to go with a 30 second lead.
However, Lehto suffered a puncture within ten minutes allowing Leitzinger through for the win.
"I was very concerned when they did the fuel-only stop," Leitzinger said. "I was hearing the split times and I was catching up with JJ, but it was far from sure. Then I saw him in the barrier and breathed a sigh of relief. This win was awfully satisfying."
Chris Dyson and Andy Wallace completed a double podium for the Dyson team by taking third.
The Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell winning streak in the GTS class, but victory still went to the Corvette team, as Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta beat their teammates to the line by just 0.240 seconds.
Gavin and Beretta led all the way in the #4 Corvette C5-R and, after a season that has seen the pair endure their fair share of bad luck, Gavin was pleased that they had taken the win rather than their teammates.
"Both cars had a good clean race today, which is just what management wanted," he said. "Having no yellows helped us really get into a flow. Hat's off to our crew, they won the race for us today. Johnny was pushing hard and the gap would go up and down. Finally we built the lead up. At the start of the race, the #3 car worked better. We were better at the end. It's great to be a part of another 1-2 finish. I'm really pleased we won. We've had some bad luck this year with some ill-timed yellows. It's great to be first."
Terry Borcheller and Johnny Mowlem took third in class in the ACEMO Saleen S7R
Timo Bernhard scored his third GT class win of the season, and co-driver Jorg Bergmeister his second, as they took GT honours in the Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RSR.
