TOMAS ENGE of the Czech Republic is the latest driver to race with Patrick Racing in the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series, starting with this weekend's race at California Speedway. He will drive the #20 Dallara-Chevrolet.
The 28-year old open-wheel driver comes from the F3000 series, where he had six wins and eight pole positions in 55 starts. He also raced in three
Formula One races. Enge has also had three IRL tests in the past two years. In between all of the open-wheel racing, he raced in sportscars, including American Le Mans full-time in 2003 with the Prodrive
Ferrari team,
FIA GT Championship and the top two endurance races - Rolex 24 Hours at
Daytona and The 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Enge replaces JAQUES LAZIER, who replaced JEFF SIMMONS, who replaced AL UNSER Jr, who started Patrick's IRL season at the 2004 Indianapolis 500.
LYN ST JAMES has joined forces with IRL team owner, KATHRYN NUNN, to conduct tests for women drivers over three days in November 2004, with an eye to running a female driver in the 2005 IRL Menards Infiniti Pro Series. The two will work on the evaluations with Mo Nunn Racing, specifically BRIAN WELLING, JERRY GORDON - the Chesson brothers' engineers - and BUTCH MEYERS, technical director for the Infiniti Pro Series. There could be upwards of 15 drivers tested.
