An interesting thing about Ms Halliday is that while she mentors and coaches other female drivers, she prefers driving with men. Women are too competitive among themselves, too emotional, and it is difficult to find three women on the same level to drive with on the same team. This is her first year in a prototype sports car, after racing GT Porsche's. It is a big step for her, mostly because of the speed factors.
The factory Corvette team, with its two yellow Corvette C6-R's, were fastest in the LMGT1 class. OLLIE and OLLIE were in the top Corvette. That would be OLIVER GAVIN, who was the fast driver with a 1m29.852s/101.367 mph, and co-driver OLIVIER BERETTA in #4. They were followed by RON FELLOWS and JOHNNY O'CONNELL in #3, and they ran seventh and eighth overall. There are six cars in this class.
The most heavily subscribed class continues to be LMGT2, which has ten cars this weekend, all but two which are Porsche 911 GT3 RSR's. The other two are Panoz Esperante GTLM's.
TIMO BERNHARD was the fastest GT2 driver, in one of the two Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RSR's, with a 1m 34.376s/96.507 mph. Bernhard and co-driver ROMAIN DUMAS were fifteenth overall in #23 Hyatt/Bell Micro/Michelin/Mobil 1/PUMA Porsche.
The ALMS race starts Sunday at 11am Pacific Time and runs for two hours 45 minutes. It is one of five race series this weekend, so the weekend is packed with events.
SCCA Pro Racing is running its well-subscribed SPEED World Challenge races this weekend, with the two categories running separately as they have done this season due to large grids. The Touring Championship series has 29 entries and the overall fastest driver from both sessions was BILL AUBERLEN in #1 Turner Motorsports/H&R Springs
BMW 325i with a 1m 46.905s/85.197 mph. LEIGHTON REESE was fastest in the SPEED GT category, driving #6 Banner Engineering Corvette C6 - the street version of the Corvette C6-R running in the ALMS Series. He did a 1m 41.561s/89.680 mph. The GT's had some excitement in the second session, with one car hitting the wall and another spinning evasively. No one was hurt.
