The GT class qualifies early Saturday morning and races Saturday midday. The Touring class qualifies Saturday morning and races Sunday afternoon after the ALMS race.
The first of two races was run Friday afternoon in the Pacific F2000 Championship Presented by Mickey Thompson Tyres/Cooper Tyres. It was won by teenager JR HILDEBRAND, who started on pole and never was headed during the half hour race. This is the first victory for the high school senior, who has been on the podium for each race this season. The margin of victory was 1.976 seconds over another 17-year old, ROBERT PODLESNI, who started and finished second. Third was points leader, MIKE FOREST, who started third. Forest, 23 years old, also turned the fastest race lap with a time of 1m 35.912s/94.962 mph. Sixteen-year old DANE CAMERON was fourth, followed by veteran JOHN LOMBARDO Jr. There were 27 starters out of the 32 entries for the weekend. Forest remains the points’ leader, with Hildebrand still in second place. Podlesni moved up from seventh to fifth.
The Star Mazda Series has 42 entries this weekend and all but one of them qualified for Saturday's first of two races this weekend. The Mazda's qualify first thing Saturday morning for the midday race. Points leader RAPHAEL MATOS was fastest in the first practice, with a 1m 29.469s/101.801 mph. PABLO DONOSO, protégé of ELISEO SALAZAR, was fastest in the second session, with a 1m 30.425s/100.724 mph. Donoso has three team-mates on the Anderson Walko Racing Team: ROBBIE PECORARI, GRAHAM RAHAL (son of you know who, racing at Nashville this weekend) and JONATHAN KLEIN. They were all high placed in both sessions.
