Historic victory for Penske.

The 2007 American Le Mans Series was a magical one for Penske Racing. The 2008 season may be even better if Saturday was any indication. Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Emmanuel Collard drove to an historic overall win at the 56th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

Diesels humiliated by Porsche and Honda petrol engines !
What a pleasure to see all the efforts of Volkswagen A.G. and Peugeot S.A. to take benefit of bent and twisted rules to promote their highly polluting cars ruined by the superiority of petrol engines, thanks to Porsche and Honda.

V12, twin turbos, 5500cc capacity diesels were not enought to defeat V8, aspirated 4000cc petrol engines...

What a strong evidence of the fact that diesels are not only dirty, they are also weak and unefficient, not adapted for motorsports. Get them back where they belong, not in touring or sports cars, only in lorries and buses and cranes and bulldozers.

Woah, anti-diesel brigade!! I wouldn't imagine the Porsche and Hondas have their wick turned up quite as much. Surprised to see them prevail though, and Audi to hit problems too - generally their reliability is superb. Interesting to see Peugeot seem to have the edge on speed now though.

"Who Cares" - you clearly don't know much about motorsport, why not keep your mouth shut? I'm not even going to respond to the subject matter of your comment.

In terms of the race results, i wasn't able to catch it, but it seems the equivalency formulas arent right, and havent been for a while, for me it somewhat takes away from the value of the racing, and the results.

The equivalence formulas seem pretty right on this occasion if you look at the overall result.. 40+ lead changes and the LMP2 and LMP1, Diesel and Petrol cars all finishing on the lead lap with another collection of similar 1 lap down

ALMS are doing a better job of equivalence than the ACO or ELMS because at least they are trying to make it so all the LMP1 and LMP2 cars have a chance to win.. unlike elsewhere were the big diesel manufactures have sway... I already wonder if the ACO will be as accommodating if Toyota comes serious on its Hybrid Le Mans racer... they certainly weren't with the bio-ethanol brigade a couple of years ago

But LMP2 and LMP1 are supposed to be different classes? LMP2 with lower power and weight, and basically being less expensive to race, could it be the case that penske/porsche are winning with a smaller budget than the LMP1 teams? That doesnt sound like its going to last long, Audi only confirmed running in the ALMS after Peugeot said they would didn't they?

Just seems that the LMP1 guys will lose patience and go elsewhere/LMES!

Lower power & weight basically means they end up with a similar power to weight ratio anyway. Also for 2008, LMP2 cars have had their fuel capacity reduced and a smaller restrictor size. The LMP2 cars won because the LMP1 cars fell over

The ALMS runs on very different circuits to the LMES. Honda & Porsche realise this & since the U.S. the the market they currently wish to attract, have built cars that they feel suit those tracks. Porsche has made no secret of the fact that their current LMP2 car is not intended to race at Le Mans & have refused their automatic entry into the event twice.

Honda is supposedly considering an LMP1 program but not before the ACO finalise rules for beyond 2010

Is it me or is Who Cares really ignorant about ALMS. The Porsche and Acura's run either on E10 or E85, which can allow them (if they wish) to run with either 90 or 110 litre fuel tanks which helps them narrow the gap between themselves and the diesel powered Audi R10s and Peuegot 908s which have to run with 81 litre fuel tanks (when previously the Audi's had a 90 litre tank like the petrol cars). ELMS run at Nurberging, Valencia, Monza, Silverstone, Interlagos and one other circuit which all specialist tracks. ALMS runs on tracks such as Houston, St Peterburg amongst others which are street cicrcuits which suit the lighter LMP2 cars as they can carry more cornerspeed than the heavier LMP1

cars, Besides the Porsche Spyders run a 3.4litreturbocharged V8 that runs up to 11,000rpm and the Acuras have to run the same size engine and the current rules. PArt of the AOC rules for 2010 onwards have been agreed, from 2010 onwards all LMP1 cars have to be closed roof and there is adjustments to ****pit dimensions. But the 4litre LMP2 cars mentioned are the normally aspirated cars.
