Liz Halliday has shelved plans to contest the final two rounds of the American Le Mans Series at Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca as she focuses on recovering from the broken collarbone she sustained earlier in the season.
Halliday, who is the most successful female racer in the history of the ALMS, suffered the injury during an eventing accident back in July and will now undergo further surgery next week to ensure a return to full fitness.
“I'm sad not to be finishing the season in the US, but the most important thing is to make sure the injury is healed properly and to prepare for next season” she said. “I'm set to have another operation on October 11th to remove the metal nail which was originally put in to hold the bones of my clavicle together to ensure it healed correctly. That's a good sign because it means it's healing well and it certainly feels much better.”
With both the motorsport and eventing seasons coming towards an end, Halliday will now focus on preparing for the new season and she admitted that she couldn't wait to get back into training.
“I'll be training really hard over the winter,” she said. “After being so limited as to what I can do during my recuperation, I'm actually really looking forward to getting back into to it, despite the cold and rain!”
