Following the release of IndyCar Series title winner Dario Franchitti to pursue a career in NASCAR, Andretti Green Racing has confirmed that Vitor Meira will join Bryan Herta and Tony Kanaan for the Petit Le Mans this weekend at Road Atlanta.
Meira, who finished third in the race last season, will now take the Scot's seat in the #26 XM Satellite Radio Acura ARX-01a for the ten hour race for what will be only his second ALMS start although he said he was very much focused on helping the team fight for victory.
"This is a great opportunity for me and I'm looking forward to driving for Andretti Green Racing with Bryan and Tony, he said. I know XM and Acura have put a lot of effort into the car and hopefully I can help them win their first Petit Le Mans."
The AGR team has already won once this season, in the opening round of the year at Sebring, and team CEO Michael Andretti said he was excited about the prospect of seeing Meira line-up in his car.
"Vitor has shown a lot of speed throughout his career and will help give us a good shot to compete for a win this weekend at Road Atlanta, he said. He's done a great job for Honda over the years and we're excited about seeing him in the XM Acura this weekend with Bryan and Tony."
