American Le Mans Series CEO Scott Atherton has admitted his delight at the news that Audi has confirmed a two-car entry for the 2008 ALMS season.
The German marque will field two diesel-powered R10s for a second successive season alongside a similar programme in the Le Mans Series, with Audi Sport North America continuing with a programme that has been in place since the first race in series history at Sebring back in 1999.
Audi has become firmly established as one of the key figures in the series, with 69 wins and every driver, team and manufacturer championship since 2000. Overall victory for Allan McNish and Dindo Capello in the 2007 season finale at Laguna Seca capped a 22nd consecutive LMP1 class victory.
"Dating back to our first race at Sebring in 1999, Audi has been an integral part in the success of the American Le Mans Series," Atherton said. "The relevance of Audi's American Le Mans Series program and the transfer of its TDI clean diesel technology to its passenger cars is unmatched in any form of motorsport.
"As we prepare to celebrate the tenth season of the American Le Mans Series, it is truly fitting that Audi - one of our key founding partners - will once again be at the forefront."
