Team owner Jim Tafel admits he was thrilled to see his Tafel Racing team post its first win in the American Le Mans Series after Dirk Muller and Dominik Farnbacher secured GT2 honours in the second round of the season in St Petersburg.
In only its second race with the
Ferrari 430, the team became the eleventh different outfit to secure victory in the highly competitive GT2 class which features entries from a range of manufacturers including Porsche, Dodge, Panoz and Aston Martin.
"We all worked so hard to get to this point," Tafel said. "Every team member has worked hard. We all know what victory feels like now. In the future, we just have to repeat the process we learned here this weekend. Our objective here was to be focused and win. It was a textbook, solid win."
Saturday's victory marked the first series win for Farnbacher and the eighth for Muller, who won the GT title back in 2000 and will now hope to repeat the form that saw him post the quickest GT2 lap during his run at Long Beach last year with the Petersen White Lightning team.
"It has been awhile and I am really, really happy," Muller, who last tasted victory back in 2000, said. "It is the first victory for the team and I am happy to be a part of it. Now, in the championship, we are looking ahead and I am very much looking forward to Long Beach. This is really special."
