German unable to watch as race climaxes with Audi 1-2.

Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro in the sister Audi made things even sweeter for the team after breezing past Dumas themselves to seal second place and gift Audi a historic 1-2 finish.

"A superb result for Audi," exulted Biela, "After qualifying, you wouldn't have necessarily expected a 1-2 finish. It was quite tight in qualifying so we have hoped for a good result, but I wouldn't have put my money on it."

"I was never very good in history but I think it is exceptional that we scored two consecutive wins for Audi on two street circuits," team-mate Pirro added.

The result gives Audi a commanding lead in the LMP1 championship with almost double the points of second place rivals Intersport Racing.

Dave Maraj, Director of Audi Sport Team North America, joined with his driver's in expressing his delight with the result.

"It was a great team effort by everybody. The drivers did a great job. Also, we had a very good strategy. To win here was very difficult. But to come home 1-2 was really a surprise to me. Congratulations to the whole team."
