Late race collisions scupper chance of overall success.

"We had a very fast car and we were trying to win the race," Pirro confirmed, "Frank [Biela] drove excellent in the first half, but we were unlucky to pit under green. Still we were catching up and I was confident of catching the leader. In the worst case, we would have been second but, unfortunately, there was a collision when I was overtaking a slow car which I could not avoid. This was very unfortunate."

Despite the retirement, Pirro and Biela were eventually classified third in the LMP1 class, split from their team-mates by the Intersport Lola. Luhr and Werner finished seventh overall, but scored maximum points in the LMP1 class for the third consecutive race, further extending their lead in the drivers' championship.
