Ryan Lewis is to make the move into sportscar racing after the announcement that he will join Intersport Racing from the next round of the American Le Mans Series.
The Briton, best known for his exploits in British F3 and the Champ Car Atlantic Championship, will form part of an extended line-up in the Intersport team, with the Lola squad expanding to run two cars from the next round of the season at Mid-Ohio.
The American racing community have welcomed me with open arms, he said, so at the end of last season, I decided that I would stay on in the US and find the right opportunity. I think I have done just that by teaming up with Intersport; they are a fantastic independent team who fight way above their weight. I am equally excited to be joining such a well-promoted racing series; the series gets better year after year and I will be proud to be part of such a great show and hope that I can do my bit when it comes to entertaining the fans.
I have had a great career in single-seaters, or open wheel racing as they call it here, he said. It's always hard for a driver to turn their back on that but I think I am stepping into an exciting, competitive category which will provide me with some fantastic challenges in the years to come. Bring it on!
Lewis will be at the wheel of a Lola B07/10 AER for his debut in the series.
