Andretti Green Racing was left disappointed following the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta after a late accident forced the #26 XM Radio Acura into retirement.
Despite a strong performance from the three-car Penske Porsche team, Marco Andretti, Tony Kanaan and Franck Montagny had produced an impressive drive in the Acura to remain in contention for LMP2 honours, before things fell apart in the final hours.
After a Safety Car period, Gregois Forgeois suffered a spin coming under the bridge towards the final corner at the wheel of his LMP2 and was collected by Patrick Pilet's Porsche, with the #46 car having been unsighted and suddenly coming across the Lola in the middle of the track. The resultant contact covered the circuit in debris, with Montagny then arriving on the scene.
The Frenchman was powerless to avoid the debris littering the circuit and with damage to his suspension, he ploughed off into the barriers and the car was out on the spot.
"One car spun to the right, another spun to the left, I tried to go between the two to avoid contact but a piece of debris hit me, he said. It broke the front suspension and there was nothing for me to do.
It is just unfortunate because we had a chance to be there challenging for the LMP2 win. The XM Radio Acura crew did a great job all weekend. They worked hard yesterday to repair the car after the morning incident for qualifying and gave Tony, Marco and me a great car for the race."
