ALMS » Lewis in car switch for finale.

Tuesday, 14th October 2008

Ryan Lewis to run in the #37 Intersport Lola for the final ALMS round at Laguna Seca.

With the #30 Intersport Lola having been severely damaged in the Petit Le Mans, British driver Ryan Lewis will run in the team's sister car for the final round of the 2008 season at Laguna Seca.

Lewis shared the #30 car with Luke Hines and George Forgeois at Road Atlanta, but the trio saw their race end in dramatic fashion late on when Forgeois suffered a spin and was collected by the GT2 Porsche of Patrick Pilet – leaving both cars extensively damaged and the two drivers lucky to escape injury.

With the #30 unable to be repaired in time for the season finale, Lewis will now move over to the #37 for the weekend, sharing with Jon Field and Richard Berry in a three driver line-up.

“Clint Field was gracious enough to give me his seat for this weekend as the brand new car the team had procured for the remainder of the year was damaged beyond repair at Petit Le Mans,” Lewis said. “Sharing the car with Jon Field this weekend is certainly going to be a little different from the start of the year. He has a reputation in the paddock for being a hard charger, and he has certainly had a good deal more experience in sportscars than me. Jon is always quick, no matter where we are racing, so as long as I can keep up with him we should be looking good.

“I hope we can finish the year on a high note and that I can maybe pick up a few things from the boss during the last weekend. Laguna is a great place to be finishing the year. I tested Champcar Atlantic there at the beginning of 2007 and I've been itching to go back ever since.”

Having joined the grid for the Mid-Ohio race, Lewis said he was now keen to try and secure himself a place on the grid for the entire 2009 campaign, despite enduring a difficult part season in the series.
