The MackintoshPlansMotorsport team has become the first to confirm it plans to enter the new GT4 class of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship next season.
The GT4 class is set to be introduced into the championship for the first time in 2008 as part of a revolution within the GT arena put forward by series promoter Stephane Ratel the man also in charge of the
FIA GT Championship.
It means that cars such as the Porsche Cayman, Audi TT, Honda S2000, Mercedes SLK 350, Nissan 350Z and Mazda RX8 could be seen on the British GT grid next season alongside the Exige that MackintoshPlansMotorsport intends to field having now pulled the plug on its current GT3 campaign.
It's been a very frustrating year but our 2008 plans fit well with the SRO vision, which I warmly welcome, team principal George Mackintosh said. I've asked Lotus to commit to the project by the end of this month and we'll essentially blend the best of our GT4 and GT3 cars.
"The intention is to homologate that car based on Lotus Cars' plans to build the ultimate road-going wide-bodied Exige GT.
