Alongside team-mate Bradley Ellis, Alex Mortimer will start the British GT Championship season among the title favourites at the wheel of his Team RPM run Dodge Viper.

The pair were regular contenders in the GTC class last season, and with the new car underneath them for the 2007 campaign, should be fighting right at the front of the pack. Crash.net Radio spoke to Alex to look to the year ahead…

Q:
How much are you looking forward to the season ahead?

Alex Mortimer:
I can’t wait to be honest. The car is fantastic and the team has done a great job in getting them ready. We have found a lot in the limited testing that we have done and have made big improvements with the car and I can’t wait to get going now.

Q:
You told us how excited you were at the prospect of racing the Viper when the programme was announced. Has that excitement grown now you’ve actually driven it?

Alex Mortimer:
Yeah, now I’ve driven the car I know how exciting it is to drive! Being over eight litres and a big V10, it’s a real animal and I think it will be really competitive during the coming season and hopefully can bring me a title.

Q:
How different is to drive compared to the Porsche you raced last season?

Alex Mortimer:
It didn’t take as much adjusting as I thought it would. The car is really user friendly and isn’t what you would expect. It is obviously a big car with a lot of bonnet space, the bonnet is about as long as a Porsche, but I didn’t have to adjust like I thought I would. It was much easier to get into and go quick straightaway than it was in the Porsche.

Q:
You have the same partner this season with Bradley. How important will that continuity be?

Alex Mortimer:
It’s brilliant, because Bradley got quicker and quicker last year until at the end of the season we were tenth for tenth everywhere we went. When we tested at Snetterton we were tenth for tenth and as a pairing, even if we didn’t have the ultimate speed, the strength of our pairing will bring us some race wins.

Q:
It’s very tight in GT3 because of how things are regulated, but who do you see as being your big rivals?
