At the start of race two, I made one of the best starts I’ve had and stormed from tenth to second on the opening lap – I took quite a few risks and luckily they paid off! When it started to rain, it became quite interesting on slick tyres and although I lost second to Allan, it was close between the me, him and Adam Jones at the front and was a real saw-see battle before the pitstops. We pitted as one and Peter did a good job in the second half of the race to bring the car home in fifth place.
One thing that was frustrating at Rockingham was the continued bad weather as all the teams really missed the chance to have some dry running once again. I spoke to one of the guys from Avon during the weekend and he told me that they had used more wet weather tyres by the end of that weekend than through all of the 2007 season, which is quite amazing. Rockingham was wet though, and at one point we had something like three inches of water in the foot well of the car...
Snetterton hosted round four, but it proved to be a bit of a disaster for us. We had gone there about a month before the race and had a really good test in the dry but once again it was wet in qualifying and for the first race. We struggled to find a set-up at first and then hit a problem in the first race when the radio failed in the car. It meant Peter missed the call to pit when there was a Safety Car and while others took the chance to make their stops, we ended up pitting when the race was back on. We nearly lost a lap with that but I was quick when I went back out on track as we’d sorted the set-up problems and tenth was a good result in the end. However, if we’d pitted under the Safety Car as planned, I think a top four was possible.
