In race two, I had some contact with Luke Hines at the start and it damaged the suspension slightly on the car. It knocked the set-up out and the car just wasn’t right. My best lap in the race was a 1min 11.2secs, but in the test I had been able to lap in the 1min 9.5secs, which would have made us much more competitive. Unfortunately, Peter then had an incident with Craig Wilkins and that was us out of the race.
Next up we got to
Thruxton and we didn’t test their earlier in the season so are a bit in the dark when it comes to set-up. However, I’m going to go and sit down with the guys from Chad before the weekend to discuss the best way to go forward and reduce any issues there might be from out lack of track time before the meeting.
Having lost the second car at
Knockhill, we had it back at both Rockingham and Snetterton with Anthony Reid and Richard Marsh in the car. I hadn’t met them before but they are both honest guys and there is a good relationship between us all. Anthony in particular does bring something extra to the team as he is top notch driver with a lot of technical ability. GT racing is a very specialised thing but he has raced nearly everything and that knowledge helps!
In the last couple of meetings, the issue of equalisation has appeared again and we’ve seen Trackspeed withdraw its Porsche from the series amongst other things.
They don’t always get it right when it comes to equalisation, but in my view, they got it right with the Porsche. It was just as quick as the Ford GT during the
FIA GT3 event at Monza and we saw how quick that car is at
Snetterton. I know all about the problems there was with the Porsche last year, but the new car is really quick if it is set up right.
A lot of people comment on how the
Ferrari is the strongest car, but my belief if that it has the best driver line-ups. If you look at CR Scuderia, they are all quality drivers and then you have me, Allan and Adam Wilcox at Chad, CiM and VRS. That explains why the Ferrari teams are doing so well; it isn’t because the car is so much better, it’s because of stronger drivers at the wheel.
