Schultz: I doubt we'll go to Oulton again.

Schultz: I doubt we'll go to Oulton again.

Team Modena team principal Graham Schultz has admitted that he doesn't feel Oulton Park is the ideal circuit for modern GT machines as his outfit continues to count the cost of its huge accident during the opening round of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship.

Unfortunately Schultz is right, and similar with a number of backwoods tracks around the country. Britain needs to upgrade or build a number of new tracks through the country. Knockhill is a disgrace. Brands is a great track with lots of history, but it is meant for Minis, Cortinas and Anglias, and they don't use the GP track any more because of Noise on the far side, getting marshals and a number of other stupid reasons.

I worked for Team Ascari, and their track in Spain would put a number of UK tracks to shame. Ones that are used for National competition.

The British GT DOES use the GP circuit - just look what happened to Modena there last year, where th car proved delicate.

For me Schultz has got the hump and is jumping the gun.

It was the first race of season, when it's always Chaotic
If they don't enter Oulton, how do they expect to win a championship
It was two 'gentleman drivers' that came together, if it was Jones and Scott in respective cars, it would have probably been avoided.
Whilst wide tracks are nice and easy, it hardly presents a challenge, which racing drivers always want. There is plenty of room at UK tracks (and Knockhill has recently been widened), but there is no room for impatient, which is a common cause of accidents.

Oulton is not a 'backwoods track' it has character and most drivers list it as one of their favourite tracks. Compare it with the blandness of other UK tracks - Silverstone, Rockingham etc and you will realise that it is also popular with spectators. Are we to assume that Mr Schultz would refuse to race at any street circuits if the chance arose as I am sure that they would also be unsuitable.
