Jonny Cocker and Paul Drayson will start the opening two hour race of the British GT Championship season at
Snetterton from pole position after qualifying at the Norfolk circuit.
Cocker posted a best time of 1min 09.892secs at the wheel of the #1 Barwell Aston Martin DBRS9, which was good enough to edge out the Christians in Motorsport Ferrari of Hector Lester and Stephane Daoudi – the Frenchman coming in to the car for the weekend with Tim Mullen on duty at Le Mans with Scuderia Ecosse.
"With the two hour race this weekend it meant that everyone could run two sets of tyres in qualifying,” Cocker said. “Looking at the times there is quite a variation between the sessions and with my first run I wasn't very happy, I didn't get the best out of the tyres so having another go in the second session definitely helped.
“I'm really pleased to be on pole, it's a fantastic result and definitely the perfect place to start from. Having EEMS sponsoring the weekend and having their car on pole is absolutely perfect."
The second GT3 Ferrari on the grid, the VRS Motor Finance model of Adam Wilcox and Phil Burton, will start third on the grid alongside the Eclipse Mosler of Elliot and Craig Cole, with the second Barwell Aston of Michael Bentwood and Tom Alexander being joined on row three by the leading Dodge Viper – the RPM entry of Bradley Ellis and Alex Mortimer.
The two debuting GT3 cars, the Team Modena Lamborghini Gallardo and the Multimatic Motorsport Ford Mustang will line up 15th and 16th on the grid – the former having missed free practice due to a mechanical problem.
In the GTC class, pace setters Aaron Scott and Andrew Howard were forced to miss qualifying due to a gearbox issue, meaning class pole went to the RSS Performance Porsche of Graeme Mundy and Jamie Smyth, with David Dove and Jim Bickley second in the David Dove Racing
Ferrari.
