While most drivers are busy preparing for the new season, Jeremy Metcalfe is set to face the wrath of
Big Brother after being named as one of twelve youngsters who will take part in the latest incarnation of the
Channel 4 show.
Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack, which replaces the regular celebrity version of the show following the race row that erupted last year, will see twelve youngsters competing for a top prize of £50,000 – with the dozen having been chosen for their respective talents.
Metcalfe, who tested for the newly formed CR Scuderia team prior to Christmas as he evaluates his options for the 2008 season after three years competing in the Formula Renault UK Championship, will be joined in the
Big Brother house by the chairman of the Scottish Youth Parliament, a Junior Olympic gold medallist, a Miss England runner-up and a MOBO Award nominated singer.
"It's going to be a blast!" he said. "Being a Big Brother housemate should be a fantastic experience and hopefully it will be a boost to my motor racing ambitions with the exposure I'll receive.
"It'll be good to let the general public know there are talented young racing drivers out there with the ability to follow in the wheel-tracks of
Lewis Hamilton. Winning the show is my aim, that competitiveness is in my nature of course, but hopefully I can have some good fun and meet some equally focused, ambitious and successful young people. It's going to be awesome."
Under the rules of the new series, BRDC Rising Star Metcalfe will be forced to take orders from a range of celebrities who will take on the role of
Big Brother - including
Little Britain star Matt Lucas, comedian Jimmy Carr and ex-footballer Ian Wright.
Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack kicks off tonight [Thursday].
