RJN Motorsport driver Chris Sanders is expected to make a full recovery after being injured in a heavy crash during testing at
Silverstone on Friday [29 Feb].
Sanders, who was due to race alongside Alex Buncombe in the team's Nissan 350Z in the GT4 European Cup this season, was airlifted to hospital following the incident, which saw him go off at high-speed following accidental contact with the BTCC Honda Integra of Mike Jordan.
Despite suffering a neck injury, Sanders is expected to make a full recovery, while the team will now start work on building a new car ahead of the start of the 2008 season.
"The GT4 car had a big accident testing at Silverstone on Friday," a team spokesperson told
Crash.net. "The driver Chris Sanders, who was due to compete in the GT4 championship with Alex Buncombe, is in hospital with a broken bone in his neck. He has had a 'Halo' fitted to stabilise his neck and is expected to make a full recovery. All the RJN team wish him the speediest of recoveries.
"The accident happened at Woodcote corner when Chris was touched at the rear of the 350Z by Mike Jordan in his Honda. The 350Z turned sharp left and hit the concrete wall on the outside of the circuit very hard at about 115 mph. The car then hit the wall again 50 metres further down the track on the right hand rear which did extensive damage also and the car is no longer usable.
"The Silverstone accident rescue team and paramedics did a fantastic job in getting Chris out of the car and into the air ambulance. RJN immediately plan to build another GT4 car."
Crash.net also wishes Sanders a speedy recovery.
