After a part campaign in 2007, Adam Jones says he is focused on trying to help Team Modena secure honours in the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship as the Lamborghini team heads into a full season this year.
The team will field a single GT3-specification Gallardo in each of the eight rounds this season with Jones set to line-up alongside former British GT race-winner Piers Johnson for the majority of the season. Caterham racer Rachael Green will fill in for Jones when other commitments mean he is unavailable.
Having spent last season getting to grips with the car, Jones said he was confident for the season ahead with the car, although he admitted that it won't be easy with a strong entry having been revealed on the annual media day at
Silverstone yesterday [Thursday].
"Last year it was a new car so we had to learn it and iron out any problems that we had, such as the engine issue we encountered and some little niggles along the way," he told
Crash.net. "But the reason for that was because we wanted to run everything to its life so we knew when it would break because with most cars, there is a lifespan when it is recommended to change things.
"We had a car out of the box and missed the start of the season so it became almost a glorified test session for us really throughout the season. We wanted some good results but we wanted to know how long things would last to benefit our knowledge for this year and that is why I feel we are as prepared as possible to launch an assault on the championship.
"It will be a challenging season ahead for sure. CR Scuderia has a lot of experience within its team and the knowledge they have will be an advantage and they will be competitive. They will be as keen as anyone for the crown, but there are other teams down the paddock which have experience and have good drivers with them. We are a single-car team which will always be a disadvantage compared to a two-car team but we just have to get on and not think about any negatives.
