Team Modena set the pace in the opening practice session of the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship season opener at
Oulton Park, despite the #21 Lamborghini Gallardo ending the session parked up on the side of the track after a minor off.
BTCC racer Adam Jones posted the quickest time of the session with his lap of 1m 38.585s being more than a second faster than Allan Simonsen in the Christian's in Motorsport
Ferrari. However, Jones' team-mate Piers Johnson enjoyed a less successful return to the series as he slid off on his outlap and was unable to get the car off the wet grass at the Cheshire circuit to return to pit lane.
Team Eurotech ensured there were three makes in the top three on the times as David and Godfrey Jones posted the third fastest time ahead of the Phil Burton/Adam Wilcox Ferrari and the leading Tech 9 Lamborghini of Oliver Morley and Tom Ferrier.
The first of the CR Scuderia Ferraris of Michael Meadows and James Sutton rounded out the top six, although there were issues for another Ferrari team with
GTGateway reporting that the Chad Peninsula 430 of Ben Butler and Guy Harrington is suffering from a myriad of problems that could force the car out of its first event.
In GT4, it was a Ginetta 1-2-3, with Rob Austin and Hunter Abbott leading the way for Austin's own team ahead of the IMS Motorsport entry of Matt Nicholl-Jones and Stewart Linn.
Joe Osbourne and Michael Broadhurst were third fastest for RPM ahead of the first of two Aston Martin N24s entered into the weekend – the Beechdean car of Andrew Howard and Jamie Smyth.
