Hunter Abbott wasn't the only person to suffer a hefty shunt in the opening rounds of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, with Piers Johnson also 'going for a roll' in the first race of the 2008 campaign.
In his debut race alongside Adam Jones in the Team Modena Lamborghini Gallardo, Johnson had qualified in the middle of the pack and was then tagged by the ABG Motorsport Viper of Craig Wilkins on the run to Cascades on the opening lap, forcing his car into a spin onto the grass on the inside of the circuit.
Unfortunately for Johnson, the car dug into the grass and went into a roll before coming to rest on its wheels, although the damage sustained was enough to ensure that when the teams returned to the track on Easter Monday for the race two, the Gallardo had already been loaded into the truck and headed for home for repairs ahead of the second round of the season at
Knockhill.
As was the case with Abbott's monster accident, Peter Taylor was in the right place at the right time, and his dramatic shots of the rolling Gallardo can be found by
