Beechdean Motorsport is to take on a new challenge this coming weekend when it competes in the
FIA European GT4 event at
Silverstone.
The team will take part in the two races supporting the opening round of the FIA GT Championship in effort to help Avon Tyres British GT Championship series promoters SRO with equalisation of the GT4 machinery – which is debuting in the British series this season.
Drivers Andrew Howard and Jamie Smyth will each run in one of the two 30 minute races in the Aston Martin N24 with the only change in specification for the car being a switch from the Avon tyres used in Britain to Pirelli tyres used in the European series.
The run at Silverstone comes after a frustrating trip to
Knockhill for the latest rounds of the British series.
The team went into the weekend looked to maintain its third place in the GT4 standings and went some way towards achieving that aim with a fourth place finish in the opening race.
Race two saw the pair looking good for a possible podium finish until a late error from Howard saw him slide off into the gravel and bring out the red flag, with series rules stating that the Aston Martin was excluded from the results having caused the stoppage.
As a result, the pair lie fourth in the standings head of the next round at Rockingham.
