Beechdean Motorsport elected to withdraw from the second Avon Tyres British GT Championship race of the weekend at Rockingham in protest at equalisation in the GT4 class.
The class has been dominated thus far by the Ginetta G50 which had secured a lock-out of race victories heading into the Rockingham weekend.
Despite a series of changes being implemented to the G50 for the Rockingham weekend, Andrew Howard and Jamie Smyth were only able to finish fifth in the opening race and then entered discussions with series organisers SRO, Avon Tyres and the rest of the GT4 field to try and find a solution to the current issues surrounding the class.
However, with it proving impossible to find a solution ahead of the second race, the team elected to launch a formal protest by pulling out of the race – with Howard and Smyth instead watching from the sidelines.
"As a team we want to be competitive and be in a position to race on an equal footing," team boss Howard said. "We have won in the GT4 European Cup so we feel that we are a suitable benchmark for British GT4.
"It was a difficult decision to make because we all love GT racing, but we need to resolve this issue so that can get back to racing."
