CR Scuderia and Christians in Motorsport secured a pole apiece in qualifying for the latest rounds of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at
Brands Hatch today after Paddy Shovlin and Allan Simonsen set the pace during the two qualifying sessions.
Shovlin set the pace during the first session to secure pole in the #15 CR Scuderia
Ferrari 430 with a lap of 1 minute 30.654 seconds. That allowed him to just pip championship leader James Gornall, who was 0.064 seconds slower in the #40 Team Trimite Brookspeed Viper.
The #14 CR Scuderia Ferrari 430 driven by Michael Meadows took third spot, followed by Nick Foster's Team RPM Viper and Jeremy Metcalfe, who ensured CR Scuderia put all three cars in the top five.
Steve Clark was sixth, while Team Modena's Lamborghini driven by Ben de Zille Butler and the Cadena Motorsport Aston Martin of Barrie Whight rounded out the top eight.
In the GT4 class championship leader Matt Nicol-Jones posted the fastest lap for the class, finishing the 15-minute session 0.359 seconds ahead of Nigel Moore to keep his and team-mates Stewart Linn's hopes of clinching the title later today alive.
In the second session, qualifying was just as close as the earlier 15-minute session and this time Allan Simonsen set the pace in the CiM Ferrari with a 1 minute 29.917 second effort.
Oliver Bryant was next up in the #1 Team RPM Viper, just 0.022 seconds slower, while Jon Barnes was third fastest - half a second off the top two and just 0.013 seconds up on Michael Bentwood's #42 22GTRacing Aston Martin DBRS9.
Michael Cullen could only qualify eleventh overall, in the car his team-mate, Shovlin put top in Q1.
In GT4 Nigel Moore led the way in his Team RPM Ginetta, but he will have to take an extra 10 seconds on his pit-stop for being a single driver.
