In the first of his exclusive columns this season for Crash.net, Relentless Suzuki’s Michael Laverty talks about how not to win a Supersport race…..
Hello everyone,
It’s great to back on track with my Relentless Supersport team. What a good weekend, perfect start to the year…well almost perfect, I could have lived without that crash!
I had got in front about three laps before the crash, I was trying to make a bit of a break, so I dropped my lap times down to match my qualifying times. I was trying to up the pace a bit but I obviously pushed too hard and the back end stepped out on me and high sided me off. It was a big enough crash in itself but Dennis Hobbs was on the inside of me as I had run a bit wide, he was so close that as soon as I made a mistake he run right over me.
I’m not sure if he hit my legs but my calves are quite sore and something sent him tumbling end over end, and then he wasn’t able to get up so the race got red flagged. I got taken to the medical centre, I was passed fit to race very quickly and managed to get back and jump on my spare bike so I was quite lucky in a way. The rules are in the favour if you finish seventy five percent of the race before it is stopped you are allowed to restart as long as you can get back. I got back in time and jumped on, my spare bike and managed to keep P1 so I was well happy with that.
