It was a real shame for Martin Jessopp to get disqualified, he was riding well. His bike wouldn’t start and that is against the technical rules so he got disqualified. It was tough for that team but it gave Relentless Suzuki a one and three as my team-mate Ian Lowry got promoted from fourth to third, so the team are happy. It is a brilliant start to the season and a good start for me coming back to Supersport and managing to take a win. It’s not the way I’d have liked to do it, being on the ground after ten laps! Anyway, we got the job done, I’m leading the championship and our main rivals in Dennis Hobbs, Billy McConnell, and Tom Grant didn’t finish, or at least didn’t score points. Tom was outside the points as he got a ride through penalty, so good in championship terms for the first round.
Its different being back in Supersport as it all depends on the one race; with Superbike you have a second chance. If I wasn’t going to be the fastest I was going to be the smartest that is what my team boss told me. I just wanted to get some good points but when I followed the guys at the start I was faster than them and I thought I could make a break but ended up crashing out! The speed is there and the bike is working well we are just having some suspension issues. We’ve been having them all weekend but we seem to be improving as it allowed me to go faster every session.
I’m happy with the way everything is working at the minute. We now move on to
Thruxton, another new circuit and see how the bike works round there. It is looking like the Virgin Yamahas and the Padgett Hondas are probably our main rivals at the minute so I’ll just keep ahead of them next weekend and start our championship campaign from here.
